MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging)
What is MRI?

MRI is a safe and precise method of examination. Increasingly often it can replace the traditional methods, because it usually provides more accurate results more quickly and never involves the use of X-rays. The technique is based on the water content of the human body tissues and the magnetic properties of water molecules.
A typical MRI scan consists of a number of so-called imaging sequences. The sequences are differently weighted so as to show the findings in different ways, which improves the accuracy of image interpretation (diagnosis). The diagnostic sensitivity and differential diagnosis accuracy achieved by MRI, as well as the choice of arbitrary projections and the 3D imaging option are important for the planning of orthopaedic and neurosurgical treatment. At Vantaan Magneetti, MRI scans are always supervised by a radiologist, and a sufficient number of imaging sequences are acquired in order to achieve optimal accuracy.
Similar to some X-ray examinations, intravenous contrast enhancement is sometimes used in MRI. The contrast medium improves the sensitivity of the scan and enhances the accuracy of differential diagnosis. The MRI contrast media are very well tolerated and safe, and they can be used in patients who are hypersensitive to the iodinated contrast media used in X-ray examinations.
The scan takes 30 to 60 minutes. MRI is painless for the patient. The nurse sees the patient all the time during the scan and can talk to the patient.
Vantaan Magneetti uses a Philips 1.5 tesla high field scanner. A major update was implemented on the instrument in 2008 (Achieva R2) and another major update in 2011 (Achieva R3.2). Thus, our scanner represents state-of-the-art technology, with the shortest possible scanning time and the highest possible image quality. In addition, the scanner is the shortest and widest model available, which makes the experience less inconvenient and frightening for the patient.
Quality certificate

Vantaan Magneetti Oy’s MRI imaging operations and the associated support functions received ISO 9001:2008 certification on 15 February 2006.
